The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, radical or reactionary?

by Colin Harrison, curator of the Ashmolean Museum

After studying at Oxford, Colin Harrison worked as an Area Editor for 'The Dictionary of Art', then was appointed Supervisor of the Print Room in the Ashmolean in 1993, and Curator of British Art in 1995. His interests range widely over 18th and 19th century painting, prints, drawings, in England and France. His most recent exhibition for the Ashmolean was 'The Pre-Raphaelites and Italy', which was seen in Ravenna and Oxford last year. He has also contributed to exhibitions at the British Museum, the Royal Academy, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and other institutions.

The conference echoes the current exhibition The Pre-Raphaelite Lens, British Photography and Painting , 1848- 1875 at the Musée d'Orsay.
